STRATOVARIUS Bassist Checks In

STRATOVARIUS bassist Lauri Porra has posted an update on his current activities via his official MySpace page. A few excerpts from the posting follow:

"Returned home safely from STRATOVARIUS North-Central-South American tour [in late October]. 16 flights, 40,000 kilometers bunch on gigs and some beers with friends.

"The tour was great. In my opinion, the band has improved both playing and feeling-wise with every tour I have been with them. I got to visit some new countries, El Salvador and Venezuela. Both were incredible experiences which I will treasure for the rest of my life. Beautiful countries with beautiful landscapes. (Unfortunately, I'm too scared to leave the hotel in these countries; I've been reading Finnish foreign ministry's travel safety guides too much. Damn you fear.) El Salvador is also the only country where I have seen the security guards in front of the stage form their own mosh-pit :)

"[Began] mixing a filmscore [in late October], which I wrote for the next Aleksi Mäkelä movie, 'V2: Jäätynyt Enkeli'. It's a private detective thriller and a sequel to the movie 'Vares' which was a very succesful movie in Finland a couple of years ago. This is the first time I have written a score to a movie, which has been a longtime dream of mine. I hope it turns out alright. Check out the teaser with some of my music, and if you don't know Finnish enjoy a good example of my weird language spoken. Also another new thing for me has been to be the musical director in a music revue. I share the musical director duties on the Christmas revue 'Heavy X-Mas' with my friend and fellow KOTIPELTO member Tuomas Wäinölä. "Speaking of Christmas. I play bass on the second Finnish heavy meets Christmas carols album called 'Raskaampaa Joulua'. Also again sung in Finnish. Check out the songclips at [this location]. Also recording bass for the new KOTIPELTO album and trying to get my second solo album done. The movie thing took so much energy I had to postpone solo stuff a bit. All of the music is written though, and I hope to get back to it as soon as possible."
